Committee Notes: Jan 20 2006

Our Committee met for an hour on Corps day, January 20, 2006 at Project for Pride in Living (PPL).

Blog Formatting
We discussed the recent changes to our blog template -- can we all live with it? YES we can. From now on we will hyperlink web site names rather than web URLs. This makes the linked items on our blog more meaningful for people who use screen readers, and also eliminates the problem we were having with looooonnng URLs spilling out of the main content area.

AU Resources
We will post our resource documents (.doc, .pdf. .ppt) on the CTEP message board for now, and link to the message board thread from our blog (if possible).

Is there a repository similar to Flickr or Creative Commons where we can store (and link to) our PowerPoints and text files? Jesse will research if there is a free online tool for storing such documents and report back on what he finds.

MLK Day Workshop Debriefing
We all thought our workshop went fairly well even though our audience consisted of about five non-CTEP people. Some suggestions for improvement:
  • our examples could have been a bit more detailed and more closely related to ‘sensitive issues’
  • perhaps our 10 tips were a bit too obvious—they had more to do about presenting in general, not about presenting around sensitive issues
  • we could have done a better job with describing what the images in our PPT were there for
BUT, all in all, we did a good job of pulling a workshop together with the Programming Committee, and created a workshop that can be tailored to a various audiences as long as we are prepared with a variety of examples for each tip. We all agreed it was a good thing to have all four of us present in turns, rather than have one presenter.

Next Committee Meeting
Where: at the Wolf's Den on Franklin Ave, in the Maria’s Café plaza
When: 10:30 am
We will attempt to eat and meet simultaneously.

Assignment:
Each of us will spend half an hour researching our fact sheet/hand-out topic, and be prepared to report on our findings at our next committee meeting. (Each of our topics are listed in Dec 9 post).
